Former Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Bridget McCormack has spent decades working to make courts more accessible, effective, and fair. Today, as President and CEO of the American Arbitration Association, she continues that mission by championing tools that meet people where they are, especially online.

In a new short video, McCormack lays out exactly why courts across the country are embracing online dispute resolution (ODR).

Here’s what she says matters most:

  • ODR gives time back to judges and staff.
Routine cases can be resolved without a courtroom, reducing backlog and restoring focus to the cases that need in-person attention.

  • ODR reduces defaults.
When litigants can respond on their own time and from any device, they participate more—and justice moves forward.

  • ODR meets people where they are.
Transportation, caregiving duties, or work schedules should not block someone’s path to justice. ODR removes those barriers.

  • ODR scales access to justice.
Courts can resolve thousands of cases fairly and efficiently, without overloading the bench.

As McCormack puts it: “ODR slashes dockets and keeps justice moving.”
